Who are we?

Ulturnit is not a private security company.  Ulturnit personnel do not carry weapons.

Before the legend of the ANZAC formed the Australian identity, before the Federation of Australia at the turn of the last century, Afghan ‘Cameleers’ played a pivotal role in the exploration of Australia.  Most notably the Burke and Wills expedition from Victoria to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Without the involvement of these Cameleers such expeditions would not have been possible.

The Afghans and their trusted camels were the only means by which these early explorers could transport supplies and equipment across Australia's harsh terrain.

Ulturnit seeks to breathe life back into this little known Australian legend and has proudly titled our Community Liaisons, ‘Cameleers’.

Cameleers are Afghan Australians who have volunteered to serve Australia and Afghanistan in the effort to bring peace and security.  Similar to those early Afghan pioneers, today’s Cameleers will serve a pivotal role for Australia and her Coalition partners in assisting Afghans to secure and rebuild their country.

Cameleers are selected and trained according to rigorous standards set out in the Cameleer Training and Assessment package (non-accredited).

Ulturnit was founded by former Australian special forces soldiers who recognised the difficulty in overcoming both cultural and language barriers in Afghanistan.  In partnership with local Afghan community leaders, Ulturnit recruits, trains and deploys Afghan Australians to advise and assist Coalition forces and their local partners in Afghanistan.

Successful candidates will acts as Community Liaisons to Coalition forces by providing general linguistic support as well as advice and guidance on how to strengthen relations and build goodwill with local Afghans in their area of operations. Cameleers will be in a better position than most to gain the trust of the local population and help break down language and cultural barriers between soldiers and locals.

Cameleers are also required to assist in Training and Mentoring of local security forces.  This includes interpreting lessons on military and civil law, tactical skills and operational support.

Important note:  Ulturnit trains and deploys Pashto and Dari linguists to Afghanistan to assist Coalition and Afghan forces in the stabilisation and reconstruction effort.  The role of a Cameleer is dangerous.  Although all measures are taken to ensure for your safety, Afghanistan is a war zone, which carries its own inherit risks.
